Comment Moderation

Manage comments and keep discussions productive

The moderation system helps you maintain healthy discussions by providing tools to review, flag, hide, and manage comments across all ideas.

Moderation States

Comments can be in various states:

Report Reasons

Users can report comments for:

  • SPAM: Promotional or irrelevant content
  • ABUSE: Harassment or offensive language
  • OFF_TOPIC: Not related to the idea
  • OTHER: Other reasons (with description)

When a comment reaches the auto-hide threshold (default: 3 reports), it's automatically hidden pending review.

Moderation Workflow

  1. User Reports Comment → Status changes to FLAGGED
  2. Moderator Reviews → Can mark as UNDER_REVIEW
  3. Decision Made:
  4. Approve: Set to RESOLVED, visible again
  5. Hide: Set to HIDDEN_MANUAL
  6. Delete: Soft-delete the comment
  7. Notification → Reporter notified of outcome (optional)

Moderation Actions

Hide Comment:

  • Removes from public view
  • Preserved in database
  • Can be unhidden later

Unhide Comment:

  • Restores to public view
  • Clears hidden status

Delete Comment:

  • Soft-delete (data preserved)
  • Cannot be seen by anyone
  • Can be restored by Super Admin

Edit Comment:

  • Moderators can edit content
  • Edit is marked as "Edited by moderator"
  • Original content preserved in history

Pin Comment:

  • Pins to top of comment section
  • Only one pinned comment per idea
  • Great for official responses

Moderation Queue

Access the moderation queue:

  • Go to Admin DashboardModeration
  • View comments needing attention:
  • Flagged comments
  • Comments with reports
  • Recently hidden comments
  • Filter by:
  • State (Flagged, Hidden, etc.)
  • Product
  • Date range
  • Report count
  • Sort by:
  • Most reported
  • Newest
  • Oldest flagged

Bulk Moderation

Handle multiple comments at once:

  1. Select comments using checkboxes
  2. Click Bulk Actions
  3. Choose action:
  4. Hide all selected
  5. Resolve all selected
  6. Delete all selected
  7. Confirm action

Internal Comments

Internal comments are visible only to employees:

  • Used for team discussions
  • Not shown to customers
  • Marked with "Internal" badge

To Create Internal Comment:

  1. Open idea detail
  2. Toggle Internal checkbox
  3. Write comment
  4. Submit

Moderation Best Practices

  • Respond quickly to flagged content
  • Be consistent with moderation decisions
  • Document reasoning in moderation notes
  • Use internal comments for team discussion
  • Pin helpful responses from the team
  • Review auto-hidden comments daily
