Working with Ideas
Learn how to view, submit, and interact with ideas
Ideas are the heart of UserVote. They represent feature requests, improvements, and suggestions from customers. This guide covers everything you need to know about working with ideas.
Viewing Ideas
When you navigate to a product, you'll see a list of all ideas:
Idea Card Information:
- Title: The main idea heading
- Reference ID: Unique identifier (e.g., PROD-123)
- Author: Who submitted the idea
- Status: Current status (New, Under Review, Planned, etc.)
- Vote Count: Total weighted votes
- Comment Count: Number of discussions
- Created Date: When the idea was submitted
Sorting Options:
- Newest: Most recently created
- Top: Highest vote count
- Most Commented: Most active discussions
- Trending: Recent activity and engagement
Idea Statuses
Ideas progress through various statuses:

|---|---|
| New | Just submitted, awaiting review |
| Under Review | Being evaluated by the team |
| Planned | Approved for development |
| In Progress | Currently being worked on |
| Completed | Feature has been implemented |
| Declined | Not moving forward |
| On Hold | Postponed for later consideration |
| Already Available | Feature already exists |
Terminal Statuses: Completed, Declined, Already Available - these return your vote credits (if configured).
Submitting Ideas
To submit a new idea:
- Navigate to the product you want to suggest an idea for
- Click the Submit Idea button
- Fill in the required fields:
- Title: Clear, concise summary (required)
- Description: Detailed explanation of your idea (required)
- Attachments: Optional images to illustrate your idea
- Click Submit to publish
Tips for Good Ideas:
- Search first to avoid duplicates
- Be specific about the problem you're solving
- Explain the benefit to users
- Include examples or mockups if possible
- Keep titles clear and searchable
Editing Ideas
You can edit your own ideas:
What You Can Edit:
- Title
- Description
- Attachments
Limitations:
- Only the original author can edit
- Cannot edit ideas in terminal status
- Cannot edit other users' ideas
To Edit:
- Go to your idea's detail page
- Click the Edit button (pencil icon)
- Make your changes
- Save the updates
Idea Details Page
Clicking on an idea opens the detail page with:
Left Side:
- Full title and description
- Author information
- Submission date
- Status with change history
- Vote button and count
Right Side:
- Comments section
- Pinned comments from the team
- Add comment form
Actions Available:
- Vote / Adjust votes
- Add to favorites
- Share idea link
- Report idea (if inappropriate)
Internal vs Public Ideas
Some ideas may have visibility restrictions:
Public Ideas:
- Visible to all authenticated users
- Open for voting and comments
Internal Ideas:
- Only visible to employees
- Or customers with FULL_PARTICIPANT access
- Used for internal roadmap discussions
