Submitting ideas is at the heart of UserVote. Your ideas help shape the future of the products you use. This guide covers everything you need to know about creating impactful idea submissions.
Before You Submit
Check for Duplicates
Before creating a new idea, search existing ideas:
- Use the search bar on the product page
- Try different keywords related to your idea
- Check various statuses (New, Planned, etc.)
Why Check?
- Duplicate ideas split votes
- Existing ideas may already be in progress
- You can vote on and comment to support existing ideas
If You Find a Similar Idea:
- Vote for it to show your support
- Add a comment with your specific use case
- Your vote strengthens the idea's priority
Creating Your Idea
Step 1: Navigate to the Product
Go to the product where your idea belongs.
Step 2: Click Submit Idea
Find the "Submit Idea" button (usually in the header or sidebar).
Step 3: Fill in the Details
Title (Required)
- Keep it clear and concise
- Focus on the problem or desired outcome
- Avoid vague titles like "Improvement needed"
- Good example: "Add dark mode support for mobile app"
Description (Required)
- Explain the problem you're facing
- Describe your proposed solution
- Include use cases and examples
- Mention who would benefit
Category (If Available)
- Select the most relevant category
- Helps organize and route ideas
Step 4: Submit
Click the submit button. Your idea is now live!
Writing Effective Ideas
The Problem-Solution Format:
State the Problem:
"Currently, I can't see my analytics in dark mode, which causes eye strain during evening work sessions."
Propose a Solution:
"Add a dark mode option to the analytics dashboard with high-contrast charts."
Explain the Impact:
"This would help users who work in low-light environments and improve accessibility."
Include Details:
- Specific scenarios where you need this
- How often you encounter the problem
- Workarounds you've tried

Vote Credit Usage
Submitting Uses 1 Credit
When you submit an idea, 1 vote credit is automatically used to vote for your own idea.
Why?
- Shows you believe in your idea
- Gives it an initial vote
- Fair system for all users
Credit Refresh:
- Vote credits refresh periodically
- Check your credit balance before submitting
- Low on credits? Wait for refresh or vote strategically
Your Vote Weight:
Your tier affects how much your vote counts:

After Submission
What Happens Next?
- Idea Goes Live: Your idea is visible to others
- Others Can Vote: Community members vote and comment

- Status Updates: You'll be notified of status changes
Track Your Ideas:
- Go to your Profile
- Click "My Ideas"
- See all ideas you've submitted
- Monitor votes, comments, and status
Notifications:
Enable notifications to get updates when:
- Someone comments on your idea
- The status changes
- Team members respond
